About Us

Active since 2003, The Friends of the Haverford Township Free Library is a volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted to helping the library enrich the lives of community residents.

All Friends are volunteers.  All of our proceeds are donated to the library. The money we  have raised has helped fund the Summer Reading Program and other special programs, purchased books, CDs, DVDs, computers, furnishings, and other items.

Our contributions to the library, over $240,000 as of September 2024, have benefited our township’s citizens, from toddlers to seniors and the homebound. We were awarded the HTFL Volunteer Award of Honor (formerly the John & Mary Lou Toal Award of Honor) in 2007.

What We Do

The Friends raise funds through membership dues, book sales, and other fundraisers. All of these funds are then donated to the library for specific acquisitions, programs, and services. In addition to this central fundraising work, the Friends strive to:

  • stimulate a greater interest in and use of the library by promoting and enriching library services

  • acquaint the community with the functions, resources, facilities, and needs of the library

  • expand the role of the Haverford Township Free Library in the cultural and educational development of the township to ensure its existence for years to come.

How We Operate

We are bound by the following Constitution and Bylaws. We have 10 monthly meetings (no meeting in July or December) held on the second Wednesday of the month in the board room of the library.

2025 Meeting Dates & Times

We typically meet the second Wednesday of each month, at 7pm, at Nolan Painting (181 W. Hillcrest Ave., Havertown, PA 19083). Meeting dates & times are subject to change based on weather, location availability, and occasional scheduling conflicts.

The Friends are honored to have received a proclamation from the Haverford Township Board of Commissioners, on Oct 15, 2024, acknowledging our hard work and efforts in support of the Library!

In 2024, Friends of the HTFL won United for Libraries National Friends of Libraries Week for our efforts.
